Animal Transport and Disinfection

Many important diseases of animals, some of which can be transmitted to humans, can be inadvertently spread by vehicles transporting animals or delivering other agricultural supplies from farm to farm, or other premises. Proper precautions can prevent this transmission of disease.

Basic Rules:

Neighbour farmers and your customers will appreciate these efforts you make to stop contamination of their premises with potentially harmful organisms.

Routine cleaning programme:

Routine vehicle cleaning programme based on CAR PLUS without bactericidal or virucidal action. Wash vehicle with a 1 to 500 solution of CAR PLUS using a pressure washer or by hand with a brush. Clean surfaces are easier to disinfect at a later stage.

Routine disinfection programme:

For regular cleaning and disinfecting to remove manure, other soiling and road traffic film, use DEAMY - heavy duty cleaner/disinfectant. This will remove soiling, solubilise grease and oily deposits as well as killing up to 100% of bacterial contamination. Apply with a pressure washer or by hand with a brush using a dilution of 1 part DEAMY to 250 parts of water (40 ml in 10 litres). Allow at least 10 minutes contact time for disinfection before next use.

There should be a footdip in proximity to the vehicle for the driver to disinfect footwear prior to entry. Use IX-91 at 1:500 or MULTI-PHEN at 1 to 250. Hand sanitation should be provided as well. Use L'EXECUTIVE ANTISEPTIC HANDSOAP.

The above dilutions rates are general guidelines. Please refer to the efficacy data for the products to determine if a more dilute solution is acceptable.

Bulk carriers can be disinfected by fogging the interiors with a fine mist of MULTI-PHEN or IX-91 from a mechanical fogger e.g. Fogmaster. Apply at the rate of 1 litre of solution per 100 cubic metres.
